Después de una larga pausa debido a temas personales, impulsado a la vez por unas votaciones anuales en redes sociales en las que he participado, hoy me he decidido a subir mi lista de 1974. Un año que a veces se considera de transición, incluso flojo, pero como en cualquier año hay discos espectaculares. Estamos en el año en el que mi grupo favorito, Supertramp, sacó el que muchos consideramos (con permiso del Breakfast in America) su mejor álbum. Pero hay mucho más: directos legendarios, rock, soul y funk, folk, progresivo, los últimos coletazos del glam y los primeros del punk… Y muchos discos que no he escuchado o quiero escuchar más a fondo, por lo que la lista, como todas, está abierta a cambios en cualquier momento. Dejaré enlaces a las reseñas que vaya publicando. ¡Espero que la lista os anime a indagar más en la música de ese año, y que incluso os animéis a hacer la vuestra!

Richard & Linda Thompson — I want to see the bright lights tonight
Un disco mágico que, aunque musicalmente es hermoso, tiene su mayor encanto en las letras. Se trata casi de un álbum conceptual sobre perdedores y dignidad, aunque algunas canciones se dejen llevar por el desaliento. Las voces de Richard y Linda Thompson, juntas o por separado, están magníficas en este disco. Sus historias enganchan, hacen reír y hacen llorar. Una maravilla con menos nombre de que otros discos de la lista pero que no deberíais dejar de escuchar.

Supertramp — Crime of the Century
Con este disco no puedo ser objetivo. Si no afirmo rotundamente que es mi disco favorito de Supertramp, de la década de los 70, o incluso de todos los tiempos, es porque existe Breakfast in America. Este álbum es un milagro, un disco que no habría existido si no se hubieran conjurado todos los astros. Con una formación renovada, el grupo se sacó de la manga este puñado de canciones, magistrales todas, que con la producción de Ken Scott dieron como resultado esta inclasificable obra maestra. Hodgson y Davies, que todavía componían juntos, se van alternando en un equilibrio perfecto entre las ambiciones de uno y otro. Insuperable.
